Practices begin April 3, 2019. The high school track will be undergoing repairs following the high school season. An alternate practice location at the Dallas Center Middle School or the Grimes Sports Complex may be necessary in late May and June.

Practices are Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 pm and Sundays from 4:00-5:00 pm at the high school track. DCG middle school and high school teams have priority in terms of facilities. Note that 7th-12th grade athletes do not practice or compete with the DCG Track Club until the completion of the middle or high school track season.

Athletes should arrive with a positive attitude prepared to practice. Athletes should bring a water bottle and wear comfortable workout clothes/running shoes to practices. Track spikes should not be worn to practices.

Athletes are divided based upon event emphasis to provide specific training for sprints, middle distance and long distance. All athletes will have the option to practice jump and throw related field events on Sundays from 5:00-5:30 pm. Please note that separate grade based training groups may be formed depending upon the number of athletes present at practices.

Emphasis Specific Events
Sprints 100m, 200m, 400m
4x100m, 4x400m
Distance 800m, 1500m, 3000m
Jumps Long Jump
Throws Discus, Shot Put

Coaches do not provide instruction for hurdles, triple jump, high jump or javelin.

Coaches continually emphasize effort over result. However, the DCG Track Club is a competitive club and athletes are expected to complete workouts under the direction of a coach independent of parental involvement. Several recreational clubs are available in the area for athletes who would like a less competitive offering.
